9/27/2019 1 Comment How to Spend Chilly WeekendsIt's officially time to think of ways to occupy ourselves indoors now that the weather's going to get chillier (which I am most definitely not ready for in case you were wondering). So what on earth do we do now that our outside time is becoming limited? I'm glad you asked because being the wonderful planner that I am, I have plenty of ideas for anyone drawing blanks right now.
When you are struggling on how to spend time productively, I will always say to read as a first resort. Ask anybody. In fact if you are looking for something new to flip through or wake up your mind, there are two posts right here on this blog all about books. There's five suggestions in each post so that's 10 brand new books you've never read! I promise they're good. You will not get bored with any of them. Although reading is great, it can get old pretty fast. Especially if you always need to be doing something. That's where crafts come in! But not just the boring scissors and glue stuff. Instead, these are the kind that you actually want to get accomplished. Maybe it's replacing lightbulbs, touching up paint, or a total room redecoration. Cold days are the perfect time to do stuff that keeps getting put off. Whatever the task is, it'll have your full attention because leaving the house isn't an appealing option in times where the cold is winning against the sun. For my readers who aren't very good at remembering to clean out drawers or closets, this next one's for you. Can anyone guess what it is? That's right! It's organizing! Organizing is a great time filler and will keep you occupied for awhile depending on the severity of the clutter. Even if you have everything in place, it can't hurt to go through and get rid of things. Less mess brings down stress! For those who are more into logic and thinking, puzzles and games are your friends. They'll keep you busy and help your brain grow. Two for one isn't bad. I like Scrabble, Clue, Life, any jigsaw puzzle, cards, and Yahtzee for anyone needing suggestions. If you don't think this is something that is for you, I encourage you to give it a try. Who knows? Maybe you have a secret competitive side. Competitiveness can a be great tool at different points in life. We've covered many areas. Books, Crafting/DIYing, Cleaning/Organizing, and Logic and Brains. There is one or two that haven't been talked about. The first being nothing crazy. Just complete calmness. Calmness is one of my favorites. Turn on some music or a podcast for the ultimate chill time. Pull out fun adult coloring books and go to town. Or you could do what seems to be most popular in this category: take a much needed nap. The week can get crazy. Take some time at the end to unwind so you're ready for the next seven days on the calendar. Having a total body/mind crash on Tuesday isn't something that's easy to recover from. I speak from experience so trust me on this one. Let's say that by now nothing is speaking to you. That's totally okay! I have one more trick up my sleeve that everyone will appreciate. Binge-watching! This may seem like a waste of time but if your mind can't come up with anything else and/or you've done everything else, binge-watching is a valid final resort. It's fine to have some you-time and catch up on some of your favorite shows. Rewatching also never hurt anyone. I think I've watched Grey's Anatomy and Criminal Minds 500+ times forwards and backwards. Maybe not quite 500 times in my opinion but I think my mom might say it's been more than 500 times. I kind of have a problem since Netflix is right there on all my devices. So with that being said, it maybe wouldn't hurt to be on the look out for a post about detoxing from Netflix and social media. I think that might actually be a good idea. Let me know what you guys think. -Caroline:) Youtube: Caroline Hill Instagram: Personal: @carhill765 Blog: @fashionfunandextra Facebook: Personal: Caroline Hill Blog: Fashion Fun and Extra Twitter: @carolinegh16 Podcast: Convo's With Caroline wherever you listen I'm a #FABFITFUNAFFILATE! I still feel like summer just started! Even though we get a bummed feeling at the close of summer, there's still things to look forward to in fall! A variety of colors in nature. Maybe some pumpkin carving here and there. However, the big one is...fall fashion! Personally, I think that fall has the best clothes than any other season. You can go crazy with the colors, patterns, styles, and best of all, things can be mixed up or paired with something you wouldn't normally put together. Basically, it's just a giant free for all when it gets down to it. However, there is a science to how pieces are crafted even if we don't notice it. So with that on our minds, this week we are going to be discovering this season's top trends! It's time to crack open our closets and do what I call "Fall Cleaning". Out with the old and in with the new!
This season is all about tailored pieces. If you paid attention to the fall runway shows there was one trend that kept on appearing. Jackets paired with skirts. No matter the jacket you can't go wrong with any skirt you may want to throw with it. Remember, fall is a time for boldness! Do what you want and don't let anyone tell you anything different. Keeping up the pattern of jackets, statement coats are another item that are in right now. However, because many women have stopped wearing fur coats even if they were faux or real. Now it's all about the fun prints and patterns. This season there were two groups of statement coats that emerged. Long in a bold color or bright, out there prints. What are you going to chose? No matter what, there's no hiding in these revamped coats! As always, animal print is making an appearance in this season's styles. Leopard, zebra, and snake prints seem to be all the rage at the moment. You get it so I think we'll move along the list. 70's fashion also seems to be making a comeback. In this day and age where everyone's embracing themselves for themselves, it makes sense that an era that was all about shying away from the norm is taking the top spot again. This next fall trend might be a little confusing or questionable but it is neon colors. I'm sorry but neon shades of any color are an eyesore. I feel that this should be something that slides in during the winter months because no matter what, everyone can appreciate a nice pop of color in January's gloominess. Highlighter pink isn't something I want to see in fall. The colors just don't match the season. I rest my case. I feel on that note, we should wrap this up. If you incorporate any of these trends into your wardrobe make sure to let me know by tagging or messaging me on social media. Until next time! -Caroline:) YouTube: Caroline Hill Instagram: Blog: @fashionfunandextra Personal: @carhill765 Facebook: Blog: Fashion Fun and Extra Personal: Caroline Hill Twiter: @carolinegh16 Podcast: Convo's With Caroline wherever you listen I'm a #FABFITFUNAFFILATE! Time to dish out my top five books for the month. I'm mostly leaning towards murder-mystery, spooky thrillers right now because it always gets me in the mood for fall. There's just something about the season that puts a tingle up your spine and your senses on higher alert. Maybe it's because the trees look like ghosts in the dark or that the sound of wind flowing between the bare branches creates the essence of an eerie, low groan. Whatever it is, with these books you never know what's going to be lurking around the corners of the pages. So without further ado, let's ring in five books that are sure to give you a little scare but are just enough to keep you wanting more.
Coming in at #5 is... One of us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus. When five teens walk into detention, only four walk out alive. Is the killer in the room or are they scape-goats for someone else entirely? You'll have to pick it up to find out. If you're still unsure, think of it this way. The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars. Taking the #4 spot is... Truly Devious: A Mystery by Maureen Johnson. In this first book in a series of three, Stevie Bell, a student at the elite Ellingham Academy with a knack for true crime decides she will solve the disappearance and murders of the wife and daughter of the school's founder. Through twists and turns, including more murders, she is determined to find the killer. The only clues left behind in each case is a series of riddles signed by "Truly, Devious". What will her hunt uncover? Will Stevie be victorious or become lost in the realms of a decades old murder? The clues are in the pages. Ringing in #3 is... There's Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins. Set in Nebraska, Makani Young has secrets from her past in Hawaii that she doesn't want anyone to know. However, when her classmates are mysteriously murdered, Makani's ominous past is about to explode whether she's ready or not. The book taking the #2 spot is... Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard. I had to put this one in because one, I love it and two, #5 wouldn't make sense if you didn't know what this book is. Here's the rundown. Taking place in the fictional town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, everyone seems to have it all. But as we all know, nothing is as it seems. When the queen bee vanishes and is found murdered a year later, no one knows why. Soon after the discovery, her four former friends receive eerie messages from an unknown person who knows all their secrets. Is it the killer or somebody else? Read it to find out! Alright, drum roll please! Ending this month's top five is one of my favorites! Taking the crown at #1 is The Murder House by James Patterson and it is as scary as you would expect. In the Hamptons there's a house all the locals know to avoid. Sitting at 7 Ocean Drive is the notorious murder house. A dark past clings to it and a haunting present lurks through its spiraling staircases and endless rooms filled with priceless pieces. When a power broker and his mistress are found dead in one of the grand rooms, Detective Jenna Murphy sets out to solve the murder house's secrets as more mysterious killings and events emerge from its past. However, on her quest to uncover the history of 7 Ocean Drive, Detective Murphy discovers startling revelations from her own past. This intense page-turner is one that you shouldn't read alone. There you have it! Five more books to add to your list of weekend reads. Don't forget to let me know what you think of my picks and what some of your favorites are! -Caroline:) Instagram: Personal: @carhill765 Blog: @fashionfunandextra Facebook: Personal: Caroline Hill Blog: Fashion Fun and Extra Twitter: @carolinegh16 Podcast: Convo's With Caroline on Apple Podcasts and Spotify Calling all ghosts, ghouls, and party planners! Even though we're only in the second week of September, Halloween season is rapidly approaching and it's never too early to start brainstorming ideas for a spooktacular Halloween party (Yes, you read that right. I said spooktacular because I'm a nerd! Don't judge me.). So pull out your notebooks and start some new Pinterest boards. After all, it's back to school season and we're all heading back to Party School.
