1/6/2021 0 Comments Late Night ThoughtsI’m not sure how long this will be or what it will even amount to because right now my brain is such a mess that I can hardly string together coherent sentences so bare with me as I try to get through this. The last couple of hours have been absolutely insane and something that I never thought I would witness. It’s a complete 180 from earlier in the day. This morning I woke up and began watching coverage of the Georgia runoffs and the upcoming certification of Biden’s electoral college win by the United States Congress (because that’s what you do at 7 am on a Wednesday). I got ready just thinking the only thing I’d have to worry about was Ted Cruz’s idiotic objections to the certification along with Trump tweeting insanities that Pence somehow has more power than the constitution grants him to somehow change the results of the electoral college in his favor. Just so you know, that can’t happen per the 12th amendment but as we know, Trump refuses to believe the laws of the nation. Heck, I don’t even know if he’s read the constitution or if he got confused after, “We, the people” and just gave up. I had an orthodontist appointment that took up most of the morning but my dad and I were able to watch the lead up to the joint session of Congress. We got home as they were getting to Arizona which we knew was going to be debated. So we’re sitting there when all of a sudden it cuts to the capitol (the actual US capitol building) and it’s absolute madness. People. People everywhere. We watched as they all packed the outside of the capitol, as they showed images of the secret service and other members of law enforcement drawing guns towards a barricaded door, as they showed these rioters- actually, let’s be real here. These people were domestic terrorists. There is no way around it. They showed these terrorists literally break the windows of the capitol and get inside to vandalize and ransack the building. Luckily, these acts did not stop our democratic process and both the House of Representatives along with the Senate were able to return to their respective chambers in order to continue the electoral college count. I don’t know what’s going to happen next but with this president and this administration I’ve learned to never expect anything considered normal or average.
